Live Channel Whelk (Smooth Conch)

Live Channel Whelks are large sea snails that are sometimes known as “New England Smooth Conchs.” This light shelled whelk is native to the east coast of North America, from Cape Cod, Massachusetts south to northern Florida.

While the “Southern Queen Conch” is normally used in many sea snail recipes, New England Channel Whelk is a more sustainable conch substitute to use and try in your favorite sea snail recipes (for any cuisine you wish). Its dark meat has a clam-like flavor, but it is stronger and less sweet.
